I agree with the 3 year degree. As it stands if I wanted to obtain a 4 year degree from Madonna I would have to take summer class to have all the crdits I need. Though as it reads it would take 3 years to get the same degree that would take 5 years without taking summer classes. This would yield going to graduate school in a faster amount of time. Thus getting a job earlier and being able to pay off loans faster.
I think we should change it to a 3 year degree because they are correct my senior year in high school felt like a waste of time. Although, I think it would be tough for a person who has no idea what they want to do to get their degree. I also agree on pushing for a master's degree because it has become the standard now for most jobs. If the students would have to spend less time in college and more at jobs we may even discover more jobs because of the difficulty of their education. Think about it, if someone who has had to teach and learn quickly and efficiently for 6 years they would want to apply those skills. SO maybe they could discover ways to pull Michigan out of the slump we are in with jobs. Who knows, but if this is ever on the ballot I will vote for it.
I believe that in certain situations for different majors this would be a good idea. But if I were a patient of some sort of doctor I would not want to know that my doctor received only 90 semester hour credits instead of 120 semester hour credits. I believe that 120 semester hour credits have been the norm for so long and are working the way they are, why change them? Just because technology and other parts of society are changing does not mean the education system has to. I believe that the College system is working out just fine and 120 credits is working. So I do not believe that the 4 year program needs to be changed to a 3 yer program.
I do not agree with a three-year degree program, because I feel that it would cram four years of school into three years. I feel that the requirement of only 90 semester credit hours compared to the normal 120 semester credit hours would eliminate some essential or important classes. For some people that do not know what they want do, a three-year degree program would be difficult. They might feel pressured into choosing a major that they don't actually want to pursue, because they feel like they don't have enough time to decide. Personally, I feel that a three-year degree program would not give me enough time to accomplish or experience everything that I want to before pursuing a master's degree. I am a firm believer in pursuing a master's degree. I think that a master's degree would benefit every individual in his or her particular career.
Although the reasons for making the standard college degree are logical, I still believe that a 4-year degree should be standard. With the extra year, people could be better prepared and more well rounded for their future career choices. This will let them make better money for being more qualified for their career and they will be able to pay their loans off in larger payments.
A 3-year degree would be awesome. For me it's a long journey ahead. I have the next 5-8 years ahead of me as a student. As of right now I started college the summer out of my senior year of high school and for now the summers will consist of picking up a class or two. I don't want to be like some people I know. I don't want to be 40 and still working for a degree.
I like the idea of a three year degree. I would love to save all of that time and money. One whole year less of loans would be great plus I really just wish I could speed these four years up anyway. I also like the idea of a course study program where pretty much all my classes are determined by my major. It's too difficult to try to pick from a list of courses with just a paragraph to go by. Also that way I would know all the other people that wanted to go into the same field. I hate the idea of graduate school. I just want to be done with school. It seems that eventually in the future people will spend more of their life in school than out of it. If I end up needing a masters degree before I get the career I want then that is what I will do but I hope I don't have to.
I think a 3 year degree would be better than the present 4 year degree because it provides more focus and its sequenced in a way that the transition from high school to college would be easier than it is now. From experience, the transition is horrible and I'd rather experience the transition with the 3 year degree. I support it also because it saves a lot of money from being spent. I think tuition prices are ridiculous and they remain high even after scholarships, grants, etc.
I think that the 3 year degree is a very good idea and should be carried out. This will save students a lot of time and allow them to start working sooner. If schooling isn't as long then maybe more people would consider graduate school. A whole year is a lot of time that could be spent already starting work and beginning to pay off loans. I think it is a great idea. For the less prepared students it may be difficult, but maybe this will be the drive for students to try harder before college and make the most of it.
Why mess with success? People are doing fine with getting four year degrees. Sure, it would save some money to cut it down into three years, but it would also cut a lot of class time and credits. Students get more experience with the whole four years than they would in a speedy three year degree. If you're really serious about what you're studying and going into a career for, you should want to take as many classes and learn as much as possible about that career.
I think the four year degree is perfect. It's been like this for a very long time and should not be changed. In some cases if there was just a three year degree, the students may not be prepared enough. The more classes you take on a subject the better. You will become an ace at what you major in and be well prepared. That extra 30 credits can go a very long way. So I think everything should just stay the same with a four year degree.
I agree with allowing a 3 year degree as long as you don't have to have 120 semester hours. This would be ideal for anyone because you don't have to spend as much time in school compared to now. We could even make it faster by enrolling into summer school. With jobs needing to have even more education now a 3 year degree allows people to go for Masters and Doctorate degrees. Allowing for the completion of education allows people to apply and get accepted for jobs allowing for the flow of money to come in faster. Also with a 3 year degree the students will be more challenged with their studies. This would make our senior year to be more worth our wild than a push over. Another plus about a 3 year degree would be the lower cost of education for students allowing them to pay the loans off sooner. It would also allow the students to focus more on our major than on the general education requirements.
I do not agree with making a 3 year degree the standard. Yes, the reason for the degree make sense but only in some circumstances. With a three year degree technology plays a big role and I am the type of student that likes being in the classroom. I learn better with hands on experience and I would not want to take courses solely online. Also with the 4 year degree a person has the option to take their liberal arts classes if they are not set on a major that they want. With the 3 year degree school would be very crammed and also those who are not sure about what they want to do may have a very difficult time. This could cause them to start college later because they are unsure or cause them to have to attend school twice because they are unhappy with the quick first decision that they made.
I have mixed feelings about a three year degree. There are some professions that would benefit and others that would not. Liberal arts education is a great style of education because it recognizes that different fields are interconnected. Just become someone is a biologist doesn't mean that they do not need any classes in the humanities. On the contrary, biologists need training and/or refresher courses in writing to develop the ability to write scientific papers. Yes, a three year degree would cost less and be more efficient, but a liberal arts education prepares you for life, not just a career.
I agree with a four year degree. Yes, if we made it a three years degree it would save a lot on money and time. You would then be able to get into the work field quicker. But, i think we need all the education we can get in our major. If going to college for one more year will result in better doctors, lawyers etc..then i believe it is well worth it.
