After reading the news release, it definately changed my views about the DRIWR project. I used to think we would just be helping the habitat there, but after reading this news release I realized that we are inspiring more people to come and volunteer. Even if they do not volunteer at the DRIWR, then they could volunteer somewhere else. I did not realize how important our service project is.
Volunteering has always been something of importance to me. I enjoy helping others in the ways that I can. This news article has definitely reinforced the way that I view service. Over the past few years the economy was been in a very poor state, and this decreased the amount of time and effort people put forth back into the community. The fact that the amount of people giving back to the community had decreased so much makes our job at DRIWR even more important. We have a chance to make a difference right in front of us. Another key point as to why helping at the DRIWR is important is that we have a chance to influence others to join service projects also.
I am very excited about volunteering at the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge. The news release only reinforces this excitement. It seems as though people can just plum forget to volunteer until something detrimental happens, for example the economic crisis caused a large increase in American volunteering. It will be good to do some service at the DRIWR not just for the experience for us; perhaps we could be able to influence others to volunteer, by telling our friends and families what we are going to do. Plus, it will be really fun to hack at those Buckthorn plants with saws and drills—oh, and chemical guns.
After reading the news release I am looking forward to volunteer at the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge even more than before! This is a great opportunity. I love to help and makes things better for people and animals. This inspires me to look for more volunteer organizations.
Service has been a topic that has been stressed throughout my whole entire life not only in school but at home. I've been taught to give back to the community that has given so much to me, and this DRIWR service learning project is a perfect way for me to do just that. This article showed me that service is rising in certain places and has inspired me to want to be a number in this statistic. I want to raise this statistic because this is a positive way to make the world a better place. This article has inspired me to work hard at the Refuge so other people can see our service and be inspired to find an organization to volunteer at.
“Experience is what you get when you didn’t get what you wanted.” The quote says it all. You get experience in every thing you do. If your doing something you want you still get experience, it just doesn’t feel like it. If it something you didn’t want, you still learn from it. Nothing is a waste of your time if you look at it from an educational perspective.
I never realized what a huge impact volunteering had on a community. Volunteering to me were things like helping out with hurricane Katrina or big things of that sort. I never realized how many smaller acts of community service there are and how easy it is to get involved. I personally would like to get involved, my first step will be in my church. I now have a much bigger motivation for the DRIWR service learning project. Its not just about killing invasive species, its more about the help we, as a group, are offering to a local community.
After reading the news release, I realized that volunteers are an essential part of society, the economy, and the ecosystem at large. I have always been big into volunteering in my community and I now realize what kind of an effect it has. Without the work of volunteers, places like the DRIWR would not be able to complete their mission. I am so excited to participate in this project and battle some buckthorn.
After reading the news release, I know that volunteering for the DRIWR project will not only be fun, but our efforts will add up and make a positive change to the area's environment. The 63.4 million volunteers' service hours equaling an estimated dollar value of $169 billion is sort of a wake up call for me because I can be a part of that statistic and improve/restore an important landmark.
I have not volunteered much in my lifetime and I'm a little ashamed at that fact. I was focused on the DRIWR project and just how it related to me and my grades. Reading that the unemployment rate effects the number of volunteers did not make sense to me. Obviously people that are unemployed do need to find jobs, and they do have their own needs , but they are the ones with the most time. Most of the volunteers were full time workers. It seems that people only want to help others when they themselves are doing well. That is very selfish to me but I was acting the same way. I was only interested in getting a good grade but I think we are meant to not only learn about the biological aspects of the project but also our effect on others.
After reading the section in the article about the increase of volunteers, it made me feel better about having to work on the DRIWR project, since I have seasonal allergies. I am now looking forward to killing the buckthorn and changing nature for the better.
After reading the news release, I had a change of heart. I was happy that we were helping the land and keep invasive species from terrorizing our native trees on the reserve. Then I realized that not only are we helping the land we are promoting avid research and keeping a habitat for some of thousands of birds that flock there every year. One small change to their surroundings can change their destination and cause harm to them and other wildlife.
Nothing would necessarily change my views but it sure would reinforce my thoughts on DRIWR. I've always had a huge passion for helping others and at least giving one person some time out of my day. Reading through the article made me realize how much people actually appreciate helping others. With a lot of people in my community back home you don't get much of that. Knowing that we really could make a difference helping out at the DRIWR makes me feel proud to be able to work for this project.
After reading the news release it has made me really excited to volumteer at the Detroit River international wildlife refuge. I have volunteered many times in my life, and with knowing how much of a benifit it is to both myself and the refuge, I am very excited!
After reading this news release, I feel more inspired to participate and volunteer for the DRIWR project. I feel that this is a fun and interesting way to help others and improve the environment at the same time. Perhaps my efforts at the DRIWR will inspire others to volunteer within their community.
After reading this blog, I now know that our service project if very important. Since so many people have stopped volenteering, it makes me realize tha there is much to do at DRIWR. Hopefully us helping with open the eyes of others of how great it is to help out.
This enforces my views about the International Wildlife Project because it reinforces my thoughts on the importance of volunteering. Many people volunteer and the numbers are increasing. It is time to give back and to help others as the number of people in need has been increasing. I believe volunteering should be required, but it never should get to that point. People should want to help others because if the situation was reversed and you were in need, you would want people to help you.
After reading the news release, it made me realize how important volunteering is, especially at the DRIWR. The DRIWR needs help to preserve its value to the wildlife in Michigan and to the animals that come here for a 'pit stop' on their long journey. We have to help make sure that the native plant species doesn't die out so that the birds and various other animals have a fighting chance at surviving while they migrate. In the long run, help out this wildlife refuge can have a huge impact on other wildlife around the area.
I have always liked volunteering and I think that this article really inspires people to start helping more
Reading this article changed my perspective on the DRIWR project. At first I was not really interested in the project, until I realized that I am helping the environment that I live in and by helping the environment I am helping people in the city and in the long run I am helping myself. As the article stated, volunteering "increase educational levels, lower and poverty rates."
